AI/ML Engineer

Landing in United States

Esteam is harnessing AI and ASR to build novel ways to assess and help children learn to read and impact the crisis in children’s literacy. For the last 20 years, literacy rates have remained stagnant with more than 65% of 4th-grade children reading below proficiency levels. We aim to increase access and level the playing field for all children, whether we’re aiding in early learning, remediation, or personalized acceleration – we believe literacy is a fundamental skill and right for all children.

Esteam is supported by the AI Fund based in Palo Alto, California. The AI Fund is a team of diligent innovators who build great companies that move humanity forward by accelerating the adoption of AI. Founded by Dr. Andrew Ng, AI Fund is a startup studio focused on resolving problems to move the world forward. We build new AI companies to bridge AI technology and critical applications. Just as electricity transformed numerous industries, AI and AI Fund are poised to do the same.
We are committed to providing an environment of mutual respect where equal employment opportunities are available to all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy (including childbirth, lactation, and related medical conditions), national origin, age, physical and mental disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information (including characteristics and testing), military and veteran status, and any other characteristic protected by applicable law. We believe that diversity and inclusion among our employees are critical to our success as a company, and we seek to recruit, develop and retain the most talented people from a diverse candidate pool. Selection for employment is decided on the basis of qualifications, merit, and business need.
    • We are looking for a highly motivated and exceptionally talented AI and ML Engineer to join our early-stage startup. You will be responsible for end-to-end ownership and scaling of our NLP, voice recognition, generative models, and LLMs. You should have a clear understanding of areas such as artificial intelligence, and machine learning, particularly deep learning, graphical models, reinforcement learning, computer perception, natural language processing, and data representation.
    • Design and train new machine learning models. You will lead the development of new machine learning models that enable learning through the use of the semantics of data in particular text, audio, and speech. You will apply fundamental machine learning concepts to quickly iterate and devise better data-driven models of early human reading and its assessment through phoneme and speech element recognition.
    • Collect, process, and analyze data. Understanding and analyzing the data is as important as building. You must build pipelines and procedures for cleaning and organizing data and tools to help analyze data. You must also understand what types of data models are struggling with and use this analysis to propose solutions.
    • Bachelor's degree in the fields of machine learning, AI, computer science, data science, or closely related technical fields.
    • 5+ years of professional experience designing, training, and deploying machine learning models.
    • Experience leading a project in solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches.
    • Experience developing and debugging in Python, C#, C/C++, and/or Java.
    • Experience manipulating and analyzing data from different sources.
    • Experience in theoretical and empirical research and answering questions with research.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to have in-depth technical discussions with both the engineering team and business people.
    • A Master’s or Ph.D. degree is a huge plus 1+ year(s) of work experience in a university, industry, or government lab(s) in a role emphasizing AI research.
