We are seeking a highly motivated and dependable individual to join as a member of the Accounting team. Reporting to the Controller, this position will play a crucial role in operational accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls, including managing the month-end close, preparing financial statements, and overseeing the implementation of SOX. You will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact as you partner with Legal, HR, and R&D to ensure that our financial records are complete and accurate. This role will be based in Emeryville, California.
About the Role
The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will include:
- Lead the full month-end close process, including preparing, analyzing, and consolidating financial statements and managing all aspects of the general ledger.
- Collaborate with the internal partners to prepare the Revenue and R&D Accrual calculations and related journal entries.
- Collaborate with the Controller to grow the Accounting/GL team, as needed
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the external auditors for annual audits and quarterly reviews. Manage PBC requests and ensure they are provided in a timely manner.
- Continuously improve and scale our financial accounting processes, including implementing systems and automating workflows while maintaining an effective controls environment.
- Manage payroll administration including reviewing the bi-monthly payroll
- Manage the implementation of SOX in collaboration with external consultants, including developing and updating narratives and controls to mitigate any gaps and overseeing the testing of controls.
- Maintain and update accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage the monthly close in an accurate and timely manner including review of JE’s and reconciliations.
- Prepare the Revenue and R&D accrual workpapers for quarterly closes.
- Prepare the quarterly financial statements
- Identify areas for improvement in the various finance and accounting processes and begin implementing improvements.
Desired Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree and CPA
- At least eight years of progressive experience in both biotech and public accounting
- Expertise in operational accounting and recent experience implementing financial systems
- Technically proficient with Netsuite, Bill.com, Point Purchasing, or similar systems
- Experience in both privately and publicly held companies, including direct experience with SOX implementation and GAAP
- Effective oral and written communication skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Highly collaborative, team-oriented, and considerate of the needs of others
- Results and solutions-oriented self-starter mentality
The anticipated base salary range for this position will be $180,000 - $234,000 depending on the exact level of the role. As this role is open to candidates with a wide range of skills and experience, the exact salary will be dependent on the specific level of the position.
