We are seeking an Associate Scientist to contribute to the application of synthetic immunology to build novel cell therapies. Reporting to the Senior Scientist, Gene Editing and Functional Genomics, you will contribute to bringing innovative cell therapies to patients with unmet medical needs. This role will be based in Emeryville, California
About the Role
- Contribute to the design, development, and execution of functional genomic pooled and arrayed screens for target discovery in primary immune cells
- Follow up on primary screen hits with counter screens utilizing alternative and/or orthogonal readouts
- Contribute to the selection/design of novel modular components and strategies to improve the performance and safety of candidate cell therapies
- Work cross-functionally with other teams across Metagenomi
- Prepare accurate and timely data summaries and contribute to the writing of reports, papers, and patent manuscripts
- Present at internal scientific meetings.
Desired Qualifications
- BS or MS in a STEM discipline
- At least six years of closely related experience, particularly in cloning and DNA design (including PCR, Gibson assembly, and DNA sequencing analysis)
- Strong background in pooled and/or arrayed cell-based screening
- Broad experience in primary mammalian cell culture techniques, cell-based assays, and a working knowledge of cell biology/immunology, particularly T and NK cell biology
- Proficiency with in silico DNA design software (Geneious, SnapGene, Benchling) and high throughput lab automation tools, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation workflows
- Ability to execute, troubleshoot, and optimize molecular and cell-based assays
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; superb organizational skills
- Self-motivated and thrives in a fast-moving, results-oriented startup environment with urgent deadlines
Preferred additional qualifications:
- Experience with viral and non-viral cargo (both protein and genetic) delivery methods, Fluorescent Activated Cell Sorting (FACS), and running multicolor flow cytometry panels
- Familiarity with engineering immune cells using genome editing technologies and immune cell signaling and immuno-oncology strategies.
The anticipated base salary range for this position will be $100,000 - $120,000 depending on the exact level of the role. As this role is open to candidates with a wide range of skills and experience, the exact salary will be dependent on the specific level of the position.
