We are seeking a determined, curious, and creative automation engineer to join our team in support of our liquid handling and integrated systems buildout. This individual will play a crucial role in building, programming, and maintaining Metagenomi’s automated workcells & liquid handling platforms, which are used in support of our multiple R&D screening pipelines. The incumbent will work closely with both automation engineering & science teams to develop fully automated assay workflows. Experience with programming and implementing automated instrumentation/protocols is a requirement for this positionExperience with integration of said instrumentation/protocols into a larger workcell environment is a plus. We are looking for candidates who are enthusiastic about developing next-generation automation systems and are eager to bring their expertise to unlock the potential of game-changing genome editing technologies. This role will be based in Emeryville, CA .
About the Role
The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will include:
- Program, troubleshoot, and qualify liquid handling/automation workcell platforms in support of automated implementations of benchtop protocols.
- Develop expertise on Metagenomi’s various workflows automation instruments and integrated platforms
- Provide routine and refresher training on developed protocols and established pipelines to both new and experienced users
- Work with stakeholders to implement fully automated workflows from benchtop paper protocols; onboarding new automation platforms as necessary
- Collaborate with a variety of users ranging from scientists through operators to ensure successful implementation and performance of novel integrated workflows
- Organize and present progress/completed work at group meetings to multi-disciplinary teams with varying levels of automation experience.
The anticipated base salary range for this position will be $100,000 - $130,000 depending on the exact level of the role. As this role is open to candidates with a wide range of skills and experience, the exact salary will be dependent on the specific level of the position. Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree in an Engineering or Science discipline
- 2-4 years experience implementing/onboarding benchtop to automated workflows & working with liquid handlers.
- Proficiency programming at least one automated liquid handling platform (ie. Hamilton, Biomek, Tecan, Lynx, Bravo)
- Track record of tinkering, self-starting. Ability to work independently, as well as in a results-oriented team
- Organized and able to efficiently manage time, including skillfully prioritizing both long-term projects and day-to-day responsibilities
- Able to quickly learn and adapt to new software tools (ex: Benchling, Google Suite, Slack, etc.)
- Highly collaborative, team-oriented, and considerate of the needs of others
- Excellent oral and written communication skills across disciplines.
- Thrives in a fast-moving, results-oriented startup environment with many hats
Preferred additional qualifications:
- Experience with programming and/or troubleshooting automated workcells and scheduling software (Biosero GreenButtonGo, HighRes Cellario, Agilent VWorks)
- Familiarity with scripting or programming languages (C#, Python, VBScript, Javascript)
- Hands-on familiarity with gene editing systems (such as CRISPR/Cas9), Mammalian Cell Culture, and/or NGS workflows
- Familiarity interfacing with automation with LIMS systems to execute data driven automated workflows
- Experience with qualification of systems (IQ, OQ, PQ) and QC/maintenance of lab instruments
