Business Operations MBA Summer Internship

We are seeking a Business Operations MBA Intern to own and support several high priority projects this summer. Reporting to the Associate Director of Business Operations , this position will help Metagenomi efficiently and effectively scale by developing and automating cross-functional processes, improving organizational effectiveness, and supporting special projects. You will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact and gain exposure to numerous facets of a biotechnology company given the highly cross-functional nature of Business Operations — partnering with Research, Tech Ops, and G&A teams and leaders. This role will be based in Emeryville, California.  We are unable to support relocation, housing, or visa sponsorship.

How you’ll contribute:

  • Improve cross-functional processes such as Capital Equipment Budgeting and Sourcing to enable scalable growth, including the utilization of no-code platforms such as Smartsheet and Monday to streamline and automate workflows
  • Ideate and implement strategies to minimize the time scientists spend on non-research activities (e.g., procurement of supplies and equipment, attending meetings, project management, lab support/operational activities, etc.)
  • Collaborate with leaders across Research, Tech Ops, and G&A functions to develop 2-3 year organizational roadmaps (strategic priorities, required capabilities, people/process/technology initiatives, etc.)
  • Support functional leaders in improving and maintaining organizational effectiveness (e.g., determining and communicating strategic priorities, improving meeting effectiveness, maintaining team culture during rapid growth,etc.)
  • Support the Associate Director of Business Operations on special projects, including the accelerated design and construction of a new state-of-the-art 12,000 sqft research lab facility
  • Contribute to the preparation of monthly All Hands Meetings

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, STEM or business major preferred
  • At least two years of professional work experience
  • Rising second-year full-time student in an MBA program
  • Demonstrated ability to structure and solve ambiguous problems, work independently, build relationships, and influence without authority
  • Experience with operating model design, governance models, organizational effectiveness, and/or developing cross-functional processes
  • Experience with collaboration platforms such as Smartsheet, Monday, Airtable, Notion, Asana, Trello, etc.
  • Effective oral and written communication, prioritization and organizational skills
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast-moving startup environment and adapt to new software tools (Google Suite, Slack)
  • Ability to complete 8 consecutive weeks June 5th 2023 - July 28th 2023

We will be offering $25.00 per hour. Please note, all candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
