Factored was conceived in Palo Alto, California, by Andrew Ng and a team of highly experienced AI researchers, educators, and engineers to help address the significant shortage of qualified AI and machine learning engineers globally. We are searching for a highly experienced Director of Data Engineering to lead our DE Center of Excellence (CoE) made up of an elite group of data engineers working on a diverse range of client applications as well as innovative in-house product development initiatives. #LI-Remote

    • Ensure high levels of engagement across the entire DE engineering team regardless of whether the engineer works on professional services projects for a client or internal Factored product development initiatives.
    • Lead the DE center of excellence in a fashion consistent with Factored’s aggressive business growth objectives.
    • Rapidly scale a steller DE engineering team and foster an environment of retention.
    • Facilitate an environment of Factored team esprit de corp.
    • Work closely with the Factored AI training team and cultivate an ongoing environment of continuous learning.
    • Implement a performance management discipline focusing on coaching, mentoring, career guidance/acceleration, and constructive feedback where appropriate.
    • Develop a lightweight structure and set of processes that are conducive with efficiency and team empowerment.
    • Serve as a role model, leading by example and setting high standards in a fashion consistent with an elite engineering team.
    • Maintain strong communications with peers and executive leadership to ensure all teams remain in sync on plans and execution status.
    • Identify opportunities to improve funnel conversion and areas of friction in the client and talent experience.
    • Manage and successfully execute on company and team objectives in a dynamic start-up oriented, fast-paced engineering environment.
    • Extensive experience (5+ years) as a Manager / Director leading and building engineering teams in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.
    • 8+ years of experience working with leading-edge data-related technologies.
    • Experience in a professional services company is preferred.
    • Real-world experience building and optimizing distributed / remote engineering teams.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely.
    • Proven ability to manage/lead and inspire teams to meet business objectives.
    • A deep commitment to Factored’s mission and culture.
    • Strong hands-on technical experience working with a wide range of state-of-the-art data engineering technologies.
    • In-depth familiarity with the complete data lifecycle, including Data Science / Machine Learning, Analytics, and Data Engineering.
    • Experience with ETL frameworks and technologies and related data engineering platforms.
    • Excited about sharing your passion for staying abreast of technology trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, and participating in internal/external technology-focused communities.
    • Serve as a technical thought leader.
    • Must be able to think outside the box in implementing creative solutions to challenging business problems.
    • Experience managing teams in dynamic, high-growth, innovative engineering environments with demonstrated leadership skills spanning project planning/execution, people management, best practices processes, and technical excellence.
