Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art.

The primary job is to help ensure environmental compliance. This includes day-to-day compliance activities, as well as medium- and long-term strategy planning. The candidate may also be required to take on additional health and safety roles and responsibilities to support the overall HRL EH&S program.

Essential Duties:
•Timely and accurate completion of Industrial Waste Water, Air Emissions, and Hazardous Waste reports
•Assist in overseeing hazardous waste management operations, directing hazardous waste disposal contractors, and reviewing and signing hazardous waste manifests
•Collect, organize, and maintain data and documents to prove compliance with regulatory and permit requirements
•Partner with Research and Operations departments to expedite environmental permitting applications and modifications
•Maintain environmental manuals and guidance documents, such as the Visible Emissions Guidance and Hazardous Waste Management Manual
•Update and maintain environmental plans to include SB-14 and Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC)
•Gather, organize, and analyze utility data for sustainability reporting purposes
•Identify areas to enhance waste minimization and sustainability
•Coordinate and manage environmental volunteer events
•Coordinate and participate in environmental inspections and audits
•Develop and deliver environmental-related training

Required Skills:
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years’ experience in environmental programs to include air, water, and waste with a working knowledge of local, state and federal environmental regulations. The candidate should be a highly motivated self-starter, be organized and detail oriented, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to work effectively and collaboratively with others.
•Experience in air emissions quantification and reporting
•Experience in SCAQMD and VCAPCD permitting and compliance
•Knowledge of hazardous waste characterization, management, and disposal practices and requirements
•Ability to read, comprehend, and summarize regulatory text and determine applicable requirements
•Experience in developing and administering training on environmental, health, and safety topics
•Basic understanding of the scientific principles of physics and chemistry
•Basic understanding of waste water discharge regulations and water treatment techniques
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Required Education:
Bachelors of Science or above in the environmental, health & safety or a related field.

Physical Requirements:
•Tasks may require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work. Some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling
•Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

Special Requirements:
May involve site visits to other southern CA locations which may include Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, and/or Calabasas

Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $86,000 - $140,000 + bonus + benefits.
