Essential Duties:
Candidate must be able to lead and drive creative research and development projects on epitaxial growth and thin film materials characterization. As a member of HRL technical staff, the candidate will design and execute experiments, analyze results and disseminate information effectively through discussion, reports and presentations. Candidate must be willing to take both a hands-on approach to lab work as well as a supervisory role in team efforts.

Required Skills:
The ideal candidate for this position has a combined 3-5 years of experience in epitaxial growth and thin film characterization at the graduate, post-doctoral or professional level.
Experience with either MBE or CVD growth techniques is required.
Experience with common thin film materials characterization techniques such as X-ray (XRR, XRD, GIXRD, etc), AFM and SIMS is required.
Familiarity with more specialized materials characterization techniques such as STEM (AC & HAADF) and APT is a plus.
Experience with electrical transport characterization is desired.
Must have authored scientific publications and given technical presentations.
History of demonstrated technical innovation is desirable.
Training in the safe handling of laboratory chemicals is a plus.
In-depth knowledge of semiconductor materials physics and growth techniques, as well as the ability to relate basic material and physical characteristics to device performance is essential.
Strong knowledge of design of experiment techniques and of statistical methods for analyzing and correlating experimental data with measured data is desirable.
Experience with the Python programming language, specifically using Pandas for data analysis, will be necessary.
Knowledge of safe handling of chemicals and processing equipment in modern semiconductor labs is desirable.

Required Education:
Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering or similar field with an emphasis on epitaxial growth and materials characterization.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to work safely in laboratory settings including semiconductor processing and materials growth areas and clean room facilities.

Special requirements:
U.S. citizenship required.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $132,765 - $165,983 + bonus + benefits.
