About the team

The Product Engineering, Growth team takes care of the User Lifecycle and how core features are discovered by the users that deliver impact. The anti-fraud engineer is responsible for stopping revenue share exploiters, recognizing and blocking bots, and minimizing and mitigating fraudulent or exploitative activities.  Analyzing data to ensure the correct monitoring is in place to stop fraud proactively.  As a member of the team, you will play an important part in helping us achieve exponential expansion as we head towards $1billion/year in revenue!

Your role

As our Lead Fraud Engineer , you will be responsible for leading  our engineering efforts to combat illicit use of our service. You’ll work closely with our billing and data teams to identify patterns of abuse and identify best practices to stop the misuse of our product while ensuring we don’t impact our legitimate users. In addition, you’ll help bring new and innovative ideas to identify and block fraud before it can cause harm to our business.
This position reports to our Growth Engineering Manager and has the opportunity to be based in our US California offices.

What you’ll do

  • Investigate real-time fraudulent behavior on our system and put immediate mitigations in place to stop it
  • Improve observability and monitoring to quickly catch fraudulent activity
  • Analyze our data warehouse for patterns of existing abuse
  • Craft and implement long term solutions to a current and future fraud problems
  • Begin giving estimates on technical resources and requirements necessary to plan and begin projects
  • Give larger scale internal demos on new features that you have completed and explain how they fit into the bigger picture
  • Participate in stability based projects that address team technical debt
  • Predict and stop fraudulent behaviors and patterns
  • Work cross team with other product engineering teams to identify and stop fraud
  • Feel comfortable interfacing with 3rd parties or business partners to facilitate integrations into our flows
  • Develop expertise in nuances inherent in specific signup flows such as self service, sales assisted and international
  • Be bold enough in your knowledge of our code styles to contribute beyond your own projects through peer code reviews
  • Contribute to fun projects meant to delight users!

Skills you’ll bring

As an experienced full-stack software engineer, you will lead our fraud mitigation efforts.  You have experience investigating current fraud, as well as predicting new exploits, and using this information to drive roadmaps.  You recognize the importance of blocking bad actors, while keeping things simple for real users.

  • 5+ years’ professional fraud experience (must)
  • 5+ years’ professional web application-based development experience
  • Experience with supporting backend for web applications
  • Experience with Google Bigquery or SQL
  • Strong front-end experience with modern component-based JavaScript frameworks
  • Strong analytical skills to quickly identify possible attack vectors for fraud
  • Our Tech Stack: Python backend on Google App Engine / Google Cloud Platform, Vue.js/vuex frontend running natively in Electron, numerous integrations with third party services
