Logs and Telemetry Engineer

Your New Role and Team
Our Software Engineering team is looking to hire a Logs and Telemetry Engineer. Reporting to the Teleoperations Team Lead, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of our existing teleoperation methods, help improve the data collection and logging in both robot and teleoperation stations, and bring state of the art data analysis to both real-time feeds and historical runs.

The best candidates for this role have a strong background in telemetry and data collection and hands-on experience with holistic systems engineering. Ultimately, you will function as our resident expert for telemetry and log ingestion/analysis resources to guide and implement usable telemetry and logging onto our existing systems.

    • Bring hands on experience in developing and maintaining ELK tooling to gain insight into our operations with the robots and pilot rigs
    • Gain cutting edge career experience as you build together with the different teams, identify and implement mechanisms to efficiently record and align data in the robot and piloting rig with the world’s first human-like intelligence in general-purpose robots
    • Achieve company-wide visibility as you partner with leaders to Implement Logstash configuration files, setup data pipelines for various log types including high-rate data from the control loops in the robots, and high-fidelity video/audio
    • Expand your experience as you develop user-level understanding of robotic system and robotic pilot capabilities
    • Tap into your leadership/mentorship skills as you advise on the architecture for telemetry and real-time remote data monitoring
    • Work with cross-functional engineering teams to develop new operations, processes, algorithms, and methodologies for data acquisition tailored to our robotic platforms and real-time systems
    • Design, access, and maintain data stores, feeds, and associated tools based on ELK to fully integrate environments with multiple data sources
    • Develop automation scripts to identify anomalies and visualize them in Kibana
    • Configure and maintain Linux-based OS in support of ELK stack
    • Document the installation and configuration for production deployments (HW+SW) on the robot
    • Implement high performance logging minimally taxing onboard systems

    • Your Experience
      Qualifications:
    • 2+ years of experience in ELK Stack Cluster architecture, design, and deployment
    • 2+ years of experience with ELK for Log creation and ingestion in production environments - Preferably would have designed and implemented an ELK Solution
    • Experienced with data ingestion, indexing in Elasticsearch
    • Deep knowledge of Linux including deployment, management, and security
    • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals including DNS, VPN, VPC network interfaces
    • Working knowledge in C/C++, Bash Scripting, and Python
    • Familiarity with real-time telemetry and log production for highly-dynamic test
    • Solid knowledge and understanding of real-time systems for control and telemetry, in particular with mission critical and safety systems (with a human in the loop)
    • Some knowledge of SCADA and EtherCAT-based systems
    • Some experience desirable (not required) with ROS2 and DDS
    • Some knowledge of robotics is an asset
    • Skills:
    • Knowledge of ELK Stack (Elastic + Logstash + Kibana)
    • Maker skill-set (ability and willingness to use different lab equipment and tools to produce things whenever required)
    • In-depth knowledge of system architecture assessments, integrated design, software, support equipment, installation of subsystems, and experiments to ensure that relevant safety requirements are met
    • Systems Engineering, Integration, and root cause analysis skills for system issues
    • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
    • Excellent organizational and process documentation skills
