We’re seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a thirst for new technology and innovation to join our talented team here at SafeAI.  In this role, you will be responsible for designing the mechanical hardware that enables SafeAI to retrofit hardware to mining and construction vehicles to facilitate autonomous operation. You will use your knowledge of mechanical systems to develop parts and assemblies, including brackets, enclosures and fixtures. This role will involve planning, drawing and simulation in CAD, building prototype hardware, life cycle testing, and working hands-on in the field when needed to test designs.
Key Responsibilities:
·       Designing parts and assemblies in CAD
·       Reviewing designs with stakeholders
·       Rapid prototyping using 3D printing or hand made parts
·       Working with 3rd party machine shops on manufacturing
·       Simulating loads and stresses to ensure parts are suitable
·       Maintaining an inventory of tools, materials and fixtures
·       Producing and maintaining full BOM for each part and assembly
·       Testing designs on the bench and in the field
·       Working with field installation engineers to review and refine designs
·       Collaborating with electrical engineers on component design and harness routing
·       Assessing and selecting 3rd party components and enclosures
·       Reviewing and approving 3rd party designs and parts
Qualifications and Experience:
·       Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or similar
·       Experience designing, fabricating, and testing mechanical and electromechanical devices
·       Knowledge of metal fabrication techniques
·       Experience with mechanical stress analysis and selecting appropriate fixings
·       General knowledge of automotive mechanical systems
·       Experience with rapid prototyping
·       Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability, Design for Assembly & Design for Serviceability
·       Ability to read and understand basic electrical schematics
·       Experience with Mechanical Simulation software tools
·       Comfortable using common hand tools such as files, taps, vices, hacksaws etc.
·       Confident using power tools such as metal saws, drill presses, impact drivers etc.
·       Proficient with CAD tools
Preferred Experience:
·       An absolute wizard with Solidworks
·       Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and electro mechanical systems
·       Experience working with automotive mechanical systems
·       Knowledge of automotive electrical standards
·       Experience working on safety critical systems and standards such as ISO 26262
·       Familiar with FMEA / FTA and similar
