ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Looking for motivated and organized individual to join an existing integrated engineering team to help design and build new cryogenic instrumentation hardware. Individual would participate in the mechanical design of the system while balancing thermal and electrical requirements via analysis. Subsequently contribute to the manufacturing of components via machine shops or vendors. Coordinate and participate in the assembly of customized components and assist in validation of system operation. The ideal candidate has creative problem solving skills, hands-on prototyping experience, and the ability to work effectively on a team and can clearly provide technical communication via oral and written reporting.
EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
Ideal candidates should have experience in proto-typing mechanical & electrical systems while balancing requirements. This experience should come from internships, COOPs or other involvement with product development teams. This experience should include; design, manufacture, build, and relevant testing. Experience with machining or working with manufacturing environment (machine shops) to understand tolerances and required documentation to be included in mechanical drawings.
KNOWLEDGE DESIRED:
Understanding of circuits, heat flow, strength of materials, material and component temperature effects, and system design methods. Knowledge of CAD software such as Solidworks, modeling analysis, and or PDM tools. Have basic computer skills (spreadsheets, presentations, word processing), and programming skills would be a plus.
EDUCATION DESIRED:
Bachelors or Masters in mechanical, aerospace engineering, or related discipline.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/ MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent problem solving skills with good mechanical aptitude and strong organizational skills. Ability to work well in a creative team environment, possess excellent communication skills, and have willingness to train/mentor others. Must be able to perform tasks safely in a lab environment and be able to climb and work on ladders and/or scaffolding.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain US Government security clearances as required.
Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $60,000 - $101,000 + bonus + benefits.
