Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art.

Responsible for painting industrial and commercial facilities to include laboratories, offices, exterior wall and floor surfaces, and equipment rooms. Maintain an inventory of supplies such as paint brushes, rollers, tarps or ladders and working with a team of other trades when necessary. Communicate with clients to determine the proper painting requirements and help each stakeholder make the best decisions for the success of the project.

Essential Duties:
Covering trim, floors, furniture and other surfaces with masking tape, drop cloths and other protective coverings to keep them free of paint. Prepare surfaces to be painted by washing them, filling holes and cracks with putty and sanding them until they’re smooth. Applying primer and other sealers to paint surfaces to ensure that paint sticks to them. Mixing and matching paint, stain and other finishes to job specifications. Applying paint, stain and other finishes to paint surfaces using paintbrushes, rollers or sprayers. Maintaining an inventory of supplies like paint brushes, rollers and tarps. Removing old finish using scrapers, chemical compounds or blowtorches. Estimating time and material costs on painting projects. Cleaning machines, equipment and work areas using water, solvents and other cleaning aids. Reviewing and implementing work orders and assignments.

Required Skills:
Journey level painter with a minimum of 5- years related experience. Calculate costs and negotiate prices. Adherence to health and safety precautions and protocols in the industry. Read blueprints, instructions and examine surfaces to determine the type and amount of work necessary. Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques. Conscientious with great attention to detail. Good planning and organization skills. Solid communication skills.

Desired Skills:
Knowledge of regulations, prep work, dust containment, clean-up, and jobsite supervision. Excellent knowledge of painting material and how to select, mix and apply them. Aptitude in using appropriate tools (brushes, caulking guns etc.)  Data/spreadsheet tracking of equipment & parts, familiarity of CMMS (computer maintenance management systems). Clean room and laboratory environment painting requirements. Industrial safety practices and use of PPE.

Required Education:
High School Diploma, OSHA Safety Certificate, EPA Amusement Operators Safety Certification, or Painting Certifications in commercial or industrial painting methodology is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Job requires ascending/descending ladders & stairs, bending, squatting, stooping, twisting, carrying, and lifting up to 50 pounds and other essential motor skills. Manual dexterity with excellent balance to work on scaffolding. Working in confined spaces. Desire to learn new skills. Ability to work in a team environment.

Special Requirements:
Valid Driver’s license, Section 608 certification as required by (40 CFR part 82, subpart F), under the EPA Clean Air. Must be available to work swing or second shift, weekends, and holidays when required.

Compensation:
The pay range for this position is $29.26 - $35.26 per hour + bonus + benefits.
