We are seeking a motivated patent agent to support Metagenomi’s growing Legal department. This position will play a crucial role in creating and maintaining the company’s patent portfolio. We are looking for an enthusiastic, collaborative, and motivated individual who will be able to bring positivity, organization, and calm to a bustling start-up environment. The Patent Agent will report to the VP, Legal & Chief of Staff. This role offers flexibility and is based in Emeryville, California.

About the Role

The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Identify inventions to help capture intellectual property as early as possible
  • Attend team scientific meetings to monitor the progress of data generation for various patent portfolios
  • Assist in the preparation of patent applications
  • Provide support during licensing negotiations or financings
  • Maintain and manage database relating to all patent procedures and processes
  • Provide general support to Patent Agent in all matters relating to intellectual property

Desired Qualifications

  • Current patent bar membership is required
  • Previous law firm or industry experience is preferred
  • Strong academic credentials, with backgrounds in one of the following fields: cell or molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, cancer biology, pharmacology, genetics, or biomedical engineering
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
