Join the team responsible for delivering cutting-edge microelectronics innovations at HRL Laboratories, a world leader in applied research for the Defense, Aerospace, and Automotive industries. We seek an experienced supervisor with strong technical skills to fill the position of Production Supervisor First Shift at the Microfabrication Technology Laboratory (MTL) at HRL. The employee in this position will play a critical role in improving daily tactical manufacturing operations and help ensure on-time delivery for all programs in a high mix, low volume production environment.
Essential Duties:
•First shift from 5:00 am to 1:30pm
•Lead daily passdown/kaizen at morning shift change, focusing on tool status, WIP scheduling, and resource allocation.
•Attend daily WIP meetings and help coordinate handoff from first shift to second shift
•Become an expert user of HRL’s MES system and run critical production reports and metrics for passdown and WIP meetings
•Make daily tactical plans and communicate priorities at shift change
•Coordinate close coupled operations and tool look ahead
•Verify that lots are kitted and give feedback to lot owners for complete kitting
•Monitor MES for the proper termination of completed lots
•Ensure tools are logged in the correct state in MES every morning
•Do weekly 5s audits of process bays and help drive improvements in workplace standards
•Maintain adequate levels of monitor wafers for tool qualifications and do periodic clean up consumed lots in MES
•Help drive a culture of safety and clutter-free operations
•Improve cleanroom organization including both the physical infrastructure and the logistics associated with lot movement.
•Work with the Equipment Support Group (ESG) to minimize the impact of scheduled tool downtime.
•Report on KPIs regularly, clearly, to help MTL drive production and quality improvements.
Required Skills:
•3+ years of experience in a technical supervisory role or engineering function in a microfabrication environment.
•Experience with hands-on wafer processing.
•Strong ability and interest in team leadership, workplace organization, and ability to adjust to quickly changing scenarios.
•Experience with six sigma and lean manufacturing methodologies, including Statistical Process Control (SPC).
•Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills.
Desired Skills:
•Knowledge of compound semiconductors such as GaN, InP, and GaAs and/or of MEMS processing is desirable.
Required Education:
•Bachelor's Degree in a scientific/engineering discipline with 3+ years of experience in semiconductor fabrication operations.
•Formal or informal training in six sigma methodologies and lean manufacturing.
•Experience leading engineers and technicians
Physical Requirements:
•Must be able to work in a cleanroom environment daily
Special Requirements:
•Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is a plus.
Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $87,000 - $145,000 + bonus + benefits.
