Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art.

Design, build, perform tests, and analyze optics/optoelectronics/photonics experiments in various systems and platforms for cutting edge devices in sensing, timing, navigation, and communication.

Essential Duties:
Specific tasks include the design, simulation, calculations, and construction of electro-optical experiments and prototypes; data collection and analysis, presentation of the results to team members. Additional job functions include writing invention disclosures, writing proposals, publishing papers, attending and presenting at conferences, and briefing internal and external customers.

Required Skills:
Research experience in one or more of the following areas: quantum optics, nonlinear optics, atomic physics, cavity optomechanics, semiconductor device physics, device design, and RF engineering. Experience developing innovative solutions based upon the application of relevant research results from a wide variety of sources.
Experience with multi-physics simulation (both device and optical system), computer-aided design, layout, and testing.
An expert in the lab with proven track record of problem solving in more than one of the following: free space optics, fiber optics, integrated photonics, microwave systems engineering, custom electronics design, vacuum equipment and hardware, cryogenic equipment.
A record of publications in top-tier, peer-reviewed journals.
Expertise in one or more of the following areas: quantum optics, quantum entanglement, integrated photonics, cavity optomechanics, ion trapping, cold atoms, optical metrology, and optical spectroscopy.
Strong desire to learn new technologies and flexibility to change from one project to another quickly.

Required Education:
Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, EE or related fields.

Physical Requirements:
Strong communication skills (verbal and written), active participation in R&D team activities. Ability to work safely in a laboratory environment. Willing to travel occasionally.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $104,000 - $174,000 + bonus + benefits.
Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
