Woven by Toyota is building mobility for a safer, happier and more sustainable world. A subsidiary of Toyota, Woven by Toyota develops and invests in new technologies, software, and business models that transform how we live, work and move. With a focus on software-defined vehicles, automated driving, data-driven intelligence, security, mobility services, embedded platforms, AI, and more, we build on Toyota's legacy of trust and safety to deliver mobility solutions for all.
For nearly a century, Toyota has been delivering products and services that improve lives. Its earliest offerings, which automated the simple manual task of weaving, have evolved into the safe, reliable, connected automobiles we enjoy and depend on today. Woven by Toyota is an integral part of Toyota’s vision for the next 100 years—a world where mobility is easier, safer and more enjoyable for more people.
Our unique global culture weaves modern Silicon Valley innovation and time-tested Japanese quality craftsmanship and operational excellence. These complementary strengths enable us to develop and deliver cutting-edge technology at scale—optimizing for safety, advancing clean energy and elevating well-being. We envision a human-centered future where world-class technology solutions expand global access to mobility, amplify the capabilities of drivers, and empower humanity to thrive.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for system engineers who are excited about helping build the best in class “software first” automotive platform. We envision the Arene platform will change the way vehicles are made. Ideally you would be familiar with the challenges associated with the automotive software lifecycle and are motivated to solve them.
WHAT DO WE OFFER?
We offer a stimulating and cooperative team environment, where adaptability that doesn’t compromise safety is our main priority. Our communication language is English, but we are primarily located in the exciting international metropolis of Tokyo. Our values harmonize the best of “Silicon Valley Innovation” and Toyota Craftsmanship. Relocation support is available.
We learn from each other, as well as support and encourage ongoing training such as:
・New languages: Interested in learning English or Japanese? How about a multitude of software and system development languages like modern C++ and SysML? Our ongoing training program will allow you to build the skills that align with your interests and job function.
・Automotive development: Want to learn about Toyota’s Production System and similar methodologies? We will help you build expertise in these areas and put your newly acquired skills to work immediately.
・Software safety and security: We are committed to giving you the training opportunities you need to help us develop automotive software that is safe and secure.
We put a strong emphasis on ethics and team values, which include:
・Be Reasonable
・Work with Integrity
We believe in:
・Creative Ownership
・Grow together through teamwork
・Courage to make history
Ask us what these values mean to us.
WHAT YOU WOULD WORK ON?
You will work with a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary team on the next generation Mobility Abstractions (MAs) and their implementation that will enable rapid development and update of vehicle software.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
・Work with stakeholders to define customer requirements for the Mobility Abstractions
・Work with software and hardware engineers to define module-level interfaces and support their implementation
・Write, analyze, and manage requirements and resolve conflicting requirements
・Architect and design the Mobility Abstractions working closely with the product owner, the product architect, tech leads, and subject matter experts
・Perform requirement reviews with software and testing engineers to ensure implementation is congruent with requirements, architecture, and relevant tools
・Develop use cases and test activities to verify and validate requirements
・Work closely with functional safety and security engineers
WHAT DO WE NEED?
Successful engineers on our team should be able to demonstrate these skills on a daily basis:
・Working with Product team to come up with high-level requirements
・Creating and maintaining traceability between Product, System, and Subsystem level requirements
・Traceability between product, system, and subsystem requirements
・Familiarity with requirements management tools (such as JAMA, DOORS, etc.)
・Creation of requirement guidelines, classification
・Requirement identification
・Requirement template development
・Conflict identification and support of consensus making
・Requirement life cycle definition and version control
・Understand common systems performance issues and tradeoffs.
・Solid systems and architectural design skills
・Solid technical writing skills
・Excellent communication and people engagement skills
・Mindset for ownership, growth, and a bias for progress

HELPFUL EXPERIENCE
Experience with the following technologies is valued, but not strictly required. We focus on growing as a team, and will help each other learn these skills.
・IREB (International Requirement Engineering Board) knowledge
・Understand Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodology
・Operate SysML and MBSE tools such as Rhapsody
・Requirement consolidation in state machine design
・Automotive industry software development or management
・Designing and executing verification and validation activities

・Familiarity with design and analysis of fault tolerant systems
・Familiarity with the ISO 26262, SOTIF, or other standards for functional safety
・Document as code
HELPFUL BACKGROUNDS
We know that not everyone who could succeed in the Arene OS team will have a background in vehicles or robotics. We encourage people with experience from other industries such as Aerospace and manufacturing to apply. Other helpful experiences include:
・Experience with development of complex systems or system of systems within a multidisciplinary team
・Experience trading limited system resources across subsystems to achieve a feasible design
・Experience with design and development of security-conscious software platforms
・Full life-cycle product development: from product-market fit, to production deployment
