We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Research Associate to join a very enthusiastic team within the Pre-Clinical Department of Metagenomi. Reporting to a Senior Scientist, this position will play a supporting role in the development of a gene-editing project working on Hemophilia. This role will be based in Emeryville, California.
About the Role
You will use your experience with single-plex and multiplex digital droplet PCR, culturing primary cells, and purifying/isolating gDNA and mRNA from cells and animal tissue to contribute to gene-editing advancements focused in hemophilia.This lab-based role is open to candidates with skills in molecular and cellular biology and at least 2 years of industry experience in biotech. Experience in gene and cell therapy is a plus, but it is not required.
Desired Qualifications
- BA/BS degree in Molecular and Cell Biology or a related discipline
- At least two years of related experience in the biotech industry
- Experience with single-plex and multiplex digital droplet PCR
- Experience with culturing primary cells
- Experience with purifying/isolating gDNA and mRNA from cells and animal tissue
- Experience with transfections of primary cells
- Demonstrated track record of working with primary cell systems and performing downstream molecular assays
- Effective oral and written communication skills, particularly when collaborating with other teams with limited knowledge of your area of expertise
- Extremely organized and able to efficiently manage your time and workflow, including skillfully prioritizing both long-term projects and day-to-day responsibilities
- Able to quickly learn and adapt to new software tools (ex: Google Suite, Slack, Geneious etc.)
- Highly collaborative, team-oriented, and considerate of the needs of others
- Thrives in a fast-moving, results-oriented startup environment with urgent deadlines
- Independent and self-sufficient, but knows when to ask questions or seek support
- Self-motivated, passionate about your work, and eager to continuously learn more
Preferred additional qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in biotech industry
- Sanger sequencing and Next-Generation Sequencing
- CRISPR-based gene editing systems and knock-in strategies
- Experience with lipid nanoparticle (LNP) formulations and mRNA-based therapeutics
- Experience with ELISA and/or electrochemiluminescence (ECL) based protein detection methods (e.g., Meso Scale Discovery)
- Experience with performing plate-based biochemical assays
The anticipated base salary range for this position will be $82,000 - $115,000 depending on the exact level of the role. As this role is open to candidates with a wide range of skills and experience, the exact salary will be dependent on the specific level of the position.
