GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a motivated and organized Computational Chemist/Physicist/Engineer to join a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineering in support of developing novel material systems relevant to the automotive, aerospace and defense industries. The individual will be responsible for performing quantum chemical/molecular modeling calculations in support of a wide variety of inorganic and soft condensed matter systems. The candidate will interface with other engineers and scientists to guide the design and development of these material systems.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS/DUTIES:
-Perform calculations with computational tools related to a combination of quantum chemical and molecular dynamics methods.
-Some experience with density functional theory, force field, semi-empirical quantum mechanics, plane-wave and pseudopotential methods. Thus, some demonstrated knowledge and usage of codes like Gaussian or VASP is essential.
- Additional experience with molecular dynamics codes such as LAMMPS or GROMACS is preferred along with some understanding of the entire pipeline related to input preparation, troubleshooting and data analysis methods and tools.
- Understanding of organic/inorganic chemistry through course work or prior research experience is desired.
- Proficiency in Python, Bash and job scheduling tools such as SLURM and experience with performing calculations in HPC/cluster environments.
- An interest or prior experience in implementing high-throughput or informatics-like pipelines related to accelerated materials development is desirable.
- An understanding or prior experience in finite element analysis or multiphysics simulations would be a bonus but not required.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to spend extended periods of time at a computer monitor. Excellent problem solving and written and verbal communication skills.
EDUCATION DESIRED:
Bachelors + 1-2 years of experience or M.S. in computational chemistry, physics, materials science or related engineering discipline.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. Person status required (US citizen or green card). May be required to travel.
Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $73,000 - $120,000 + bonus + benefits.
Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position.
