Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art.
General Description:
Perform simulation, design, and characterization of micro-electrical-mechanical systems to realize state-of-the art MEMS and MOEMS devices as part of an ambitious, goal-oriented, multi-disciplinary team focused on device concept-to-maturation.
Essential Duties:
Develop high-performance gyroscopes, quartz oscillators, membranes, and multi-axis mechanical devices for laser integration. Simulate in COMSOL or similar, develop new measurement techniques to trim mechanical devices, analyze results and report findings to other team members in oral presentations and written reports. Analyze measurement results through application of relevant theory and modeling to define approaches for further device improvements in performance and/or yield. Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to identify and implement improvements to MEMS device control and measurement sub-systems.
Required Skills:
Detailed knowledge of MEMS design, fabrication and characterization. An expert in modern experimental physics techniques including troubleshooting analog electronics and noise analysis, familiarity with scientific programming for data analysis and hardware interfacing (specific language is not critical), experience in scientific communication through technical presentations and journal publications. A plus is experience with two-photon processes in glass, polymers and related developing manufacturing methods.
Required Education:
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics with an emphasis on micro-mechanical devices or technologies. Candidates with additional experience may be considered for more advanced positions.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to climb ladders to use elevated test equipment. Must be able to work safely in a laboratory environment. Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods.
Special Requirements:
U.S. citizenship. Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance as required.
