We are seeking a creative and collaborative Scientist, Gene Editing Systems to join the Discovery division and develop novel gene editing systems into therapeutic tools.

This position reports to the Lead of the CRISPR transposase team and will play a crucial role in translating systems discovered from nature into next-generation tools for performing accurate and efficient targeted genomic integrations.

This will involve developing cell based assays and readouts, performing functional genomics and library based screening, and optimizing systems for use in primary cells. You will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact as you partner with the automation, genome editing, and pre-clinical teams in order to establish the technology behind novel genetic medicines. This role will be based in Emeryville, California.

About the Role

  • Design and generate protein expression constructs to test novel CRISPR-Cas systems in vitro and in mammalian cells
  • Perform first-of-its-kind experiments to validate activity of novel gene editing systems
  • Develop assays to characterize the activity of novel enzyme systems to determine editing outcomes and efficiencies
  • Prepare accurate and timely data summaries; contribute to writing of reports, patents, manuscripts, and present findings to key stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ph.D in Molecular, Cell Biology, Genetics, or a related discipline
  • Experience with CRISPR/Cas, transposons, Lentiviruses, and/or other gene editing technologies
  • Experience with flow cytometry, qPCR, ddPCR, and/or NGS as readouts of cell editing
  • Demonstrated track record of assay development and problem solving
  • Effective oral and written communication, prioritization and organizational skills
  • Able to quickly learn new software tools (Geneious, Crispresso, Slack)
  • Highly collaborative, solutions oriented, and thrives in a fast-moving startup environment

California Pay Transparency Disclosure:

This position is classified as an exempt position under the Federal Labor Standards Act.  The anticipated base salary range for this position will be $115,000 to $130,000 .  You will also be eligible to receive equity, bonuses, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits depending on the position offered. Please note that individual total compensation for this position will be determined at the Company’s sole discretion and may vary based on location, skill level, years and depth of relevant experience, and education.
