We are seeking a motivated and creative individual to analyze novel gene editing systems as a member of the Functional Assays and Specificity team. Reporting to the Sr. Scientist, this position will play a crucial role in discovering novel gene editing systems, including high-throughput assay design, screening, and evaluating specificity. You will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact as you partner with in silico biologists, protein engineering, automation, and pre-clinical teams in order to create top gene editing technologies. This role will be based in Emeryville, California.
About the Role
The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will include:
- Design, perform, optimize, and innovate in-cell assays that determine the function of novel proteins, including proteins for gene editing
- Establish high-throughput screening methods for detailed characterization of enzymatic activity
- Prepare accurate and timely data summaries and contribute to writing of reports, papers, and patents
- Present research findings at internal meetings, conferences, and to key stakeholders
- Manage one or more direct reports
Desired Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell biology, or a related discipline
- Industry or academic experience with standard molecular biology techniques and mammalian cell culture
- Experience with high-throughput experimental design, gene editing techniques, and creating stable cells lines via lentivirus preferred
- Experience with NGS assay design and analysis preferred
- Effective oral and written communication skills, particularly when collaborating with other teams with limited knowledge of your area of expertise
- Extremely organized and able to efficiently manage your time and workflow, including skillfully prioritizing both long-term projects and day-to-day responsibilities
- Able to quickly learn and adapt to new software tools (Google Suite, Slack, etc.)

The anticipated base salary range for this position will be $118,000 - $145,000 depending on the exact level of the role. As this role is open to candidates with a wide range of skills and experience, the exact salary will be dependent on the specific level of the position.
