We are seeking a Scientist I/II to develop novel gene editing tools as a member of the Mammalian Cell Translation team. This person will use their strong molecular and cell biology skills to translate systems discovered from nature into next-generation tools. This position reports to the lead of the Novel Systems Translation team. You will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact as you partner with computational biologists, protein engineers, automation scientists, and pre-clinical teams in order to bring the next generation of gene editing therapies to patients. The successful candidate will be a domain expert in mammalian cell biology and cloning and will design and execute relevant experiments and assays with accuracy and efficiency. This role will be based in Emeryville, California.
How you’ll contribute:
- Design and establish experiments to test new genome editing technologies in immortalized and primary cells in a high throughput manner
- Collaborate with the Biochemistry, Protein Engineering and Pre-clinical teams
- Keep up-to-date on the competitive landscape of technological advances and, where appropriate, propose new areas of research that will advance the company’s technology platform
- Prepare accurate and timely data summaries and contribute to writing of reports, papers, and patent manuscripts
- Present at external scientific meetings
What you bring:
- Ph.D. in biology or a related discipline and experience in applied research
- At least three years hands on experience in molecular cloning, mammalian cell culture, and primary cell handling
- Demonstrated scientific skills and knowledge on current gene editing technologies
- Experience with flow cytometry and/or NGS analysis
- Effective oral and written communication, prioritization and organizational skills
- Able to quickly learn and adapt to new software tools (Google Suite, Slack, etc.)
- Highly collaborative, solutions oriented, and thrives in a fast-moving startup environment
California Pay Transparency Disclosure:
This position is classified as an exempt position under the Federal Labor Standards Act. The anticipated base salary range for this position will be $115,000 - $145,000 . You will also be eligible to receive equity, bonuses, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits depending on the position offered. Please note that individual total compensation for this position will be determined at the Company’s sole discretion and may vary based on location, skill level, years and depth of relevant experience, and education.
