We are seeking smart, analytically-minded people to help us in our fresh and ambitious approach to artificial intelligence. The role of a Semantic Ontologist at Unlikely AI supports the building of an AI system, using our technology rather than writing code. This is a technical role that will require you to think sharply and explain your reasoning clearly, both to other people but also taking that clarity of thought and using it to make our AI solution stronger.
Coding experience is not essential for this position: you will be working with new interfaces and a team of technologists to build the future.
Unlikely AI is a deep tech startup working to create a world where highly intelligent automated systems enable humanity to flourish and benefit us all. We are pioneering transformative technology aimed at making Artificial Intelligence more accurate, trustworthy and safe. Based in London, the company was founded by William Tunstall-Pedoe, best known for his key role in the creation of Alexa following the acquisition of his first start-up by Amazon in 2012.
Please see our Company Principles to understand the core things we value. In particular we are looking for exceptional people who are willing to tackle some of the most difficult technical problems there are, in order to create something extraordinary with huge impact.
Required:
Demonstrable ability to think abstractly and precisely, and to consider, invent, and clearly express lines of logical thought.
Ability to handle ambiguity and cut through it.
Previous experience with ontology or taxonomy.
Exposure to working with knowledge graphs and/or natural language processing.
Experience working within a technical role that involves the organisation of data in some way that goes beyond a narrow specialism.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain difficult and subtle ideas clearly.
Excellent organisational skills, high attention to detail with a probing mindset.
Nice to have:
Experience in the semantic web is advantageous.
Expertise within a related fieldof logic/linguistics/computer science.
Understanding of LLM and related technologies.
Does this sound like you? If so, or if you’re curious, we’d love to set up a time to explain a bit more about the role and talk about how it might suit you. We’ll also have a short quiz for you to complete, to help with this conversation.
Location:

We also have occasional team days where everyone meets face to face and days where people work heads down from home, communicating with colleagues using Slack and Zoom.
Compensation:
Compensation will be through salary and generous share options. The company has a tax-efficient EMI share option scheme set up (not available to larger companies) which allows us to provide real exposure to the success of the company without taxes being due when they are paid.

We, therefore, do not discriminate in employment based on gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, political affiliation, disability, age, marital status, medical history, parental status or genetic information.
