We are seeking a Senior Associate, Analytical Sciences and Quality Control to support assay development, qualification, and sample testing as a member of the Analytical Sciences and Quality Control team. Reporting to the Senior Scientist, this position contributes to analytical support to multiple programs in our portfolio. You will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact as you partner with Quality Control, Process Development, Manufacture and Preclinical teams. This role will be based in Emeryville, California.

How you’ll contribute:

  • This position will play a supporting role, working within the analytical chemistry team on method development, transfer, qualification and validation and supporting material and lot release testing. This position is laboratory based and supports all drug modalities (both in vivo and ex vivo therapies) at Metagenomi
  • Work with scientists on one or more projects to support identity, purity, impurity, potency, and other characterization testing
  • Work on test method development, transfer, qualification and validation for in-process materials, lot release and stability, to support the Process Development and Manufacturing teams, execute in-house routine testing
  • Follow SOPs or work instructions during assay execution; author summary reports
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of any scientific experimental plan, data and report; operate under Good Documentation Practice for efficient data management and retrieval
  • Ensure that all work follows the required regulatory standards, conforms to company policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Follow Environment, Health & Safety policies, ensure safe environmental and working conditions in the lab
  • Work on multiple projects to meet departmental and organization goals
  • Troubleshoot instruments and methods


What you bring:

  • Undergraduate degree in Analytical chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular biology, or other closely related chemistry or life sciences discipline, with at least five years of relevant experience in an analytical development lab and/or a QC analytical laboratory
  • Hands-on experience in mRNA, LNP and protein analytical methods  (e.g. HPLC (IPRP, SEC), CE, LCMS, residual solvent and impurities etc.), and molecular & biochemistry assays (e.g., qPCR, ELISA, wester blots, SDS-PAGE, etc.)
  • Experience with gene and cell therapy, mRNA/LNP, CRISPR/Cas technology is an advantage
  • Flexible to meet changing demands to support process development and manufacturing activities
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with a high tolerance for ambiguity, solutions oriented and a ble to problem solve and identify root cause
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills; written and oral
  • Highly collaborative, team-oriented

California Pay Transparency Disclosure:

This position is classified as an exempt position under the Federal Labor Standards Act.  The anticipated base salary range for this position will be $100,000 -$115,000. You will also be eligible to receive equity, bonuses, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits depending on the position offered. Please note that individual total compensation for this position will be determined at the Company’s sole discretion and may vary based on location, skill level, years and depth of relevant experience, and education.
