The heart of insitro’s strategy is the development of novel, cutting-edge methods in machine learning and high-throughput science to address key bottlenecks in the drug development pipeline.
As Senior Automation Engineer, you will design and build key components of our lab platform to generate high quality data for disease modeling and drug discovery. You will provide a systematic approach to automating processes at varying stages of research and development to ensure scalability, sustainability and reliability. You’ll also assess the efficiency and quality of research operations and provide support for continued optimization. You’ll be a mentor to other automation engineers, and share knowledge and engineering best practices.

About You
- B.S, M.S, or Ph.D. in natural science or engineering, or 6+ years of relevant work experience
- Substantial experience scripting methods and performing liquid class optimization on OEM robotic systems with a strong preference for Hamilton (STAR/Vantage), Agilent Bravo, and /or PRIME Liquid Handlers
- Experience in systems integration, working with vendors to make modifications to existing software and hardware to enable expanded usage and new features for multiple integrated systems
- Expertise in gathering/creating user requirements process diagrams, system requirements, technical specifications and engineering drawings
- Experience with Green Button Go, Overlord, VWorks, Tempo, or other automation scheduling software
- Solid understanding of the lab automation industry and available tools
- Experience integrating automation systems with LIMS
- Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Nice to Have
- Expertise with Python, C#, or a similar programming language
- Experience with automated high-throughput screening workflows
- Experience with automated iPSC cell culture systems
- Experience with nucleic acid extraction and library preparation workflows
- Experience with SolidWorks or CREO
- Experience writing and deploying device drivers to use with automation scheduling software
- Experience with CAD, 3D printing, or other rapid prototyping tools
Compensation & Benefits at insitro
Our target starting salary for successful US-based applicants for this role is $155,000 - $175,000. To determine starting pay, we consider multiple job-related factors including a candidate’s skills, education and experience, the level at which they are actually hired, market demand, business needs, and internal parity. We may also adjust this range in the future based on market data.
This role is eligible for participation in our Annual Performance Bonus Plan (based on company targets by role level and annual company performance) and our Equity Incentive Plan, subject to the terms of those plans and associated policies.
