Senior Software Engineer, Web Performance

Our flagship product is Decrypt, a software platform for collecting and processing foreign language text data with a UI for enabling users to quickly interpret the data. Decrypt is driving some of our most important military and foreign policy decisions by enabling our government partners to understand and respond to foreign actors in ways previously not possible.

We are a growth startup with investment from Felicis Ventures, DFJ Growth, Aloft VC, General Catalyst, Point72, Costanoa Ventures, and Shield Capital.

In this role, you will be focused on improving the experience of our forward operators who use low-bandwidth (< 0.4 Mbps) low-CPU machines, on classified and unclassified networks - think submarines, airplanes, remote islands, or a dusty PC on a military base. Short-term challenges include making our single-page, client-side React web application with heavy visualizations snappy and responsive for these users. Performance at the edge will always be a concern and will give the business significant competitive advantage, and long-term projects include building an alerting system for ultra-low-bandwidth (satellite phone) forward-deployed operators.

You will have significant ownership over this concern, and freedom to tackle it as you see fit - query tuning, caching, server rendering, bundle splitting, edge deployments - these are just some words we've heard and we hope you know more.
