Software Engineering Manager, Fleet and Cognitive Systems

Your New Role and Team
Sanctuary AI is looking to hire an experienced, hands-on technical leader to join our teams of full-stack engineers reporting to the Director of Software Engineering. You will provide expertise and guidance to the team building our cognitive platform and fleet management infrastructure. These systems provide a backbone to our artificial intelligence models, vision system, simulation environment, high-level reasoning, and graphical/hardware interfaces.

The ideal applicant for this position is passionate about developing human-like intelligence in general-purpose robots. This role requires experience building and mentoring an exceptional, enthusiastic team of engineers. You’ll also collaborate with our hardware and machine learning teams to execute corporate-wide technical roadmaps and solutions. You will also lead technical discussions, direct development team deliverables, anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management and risk assessment, and balance the strategic needs versus technical constraints. Ultimately, you will be at the forefront of crafting technical and product strategies to help us achieve our mission faster.

    • Your Skills & Qualifications
      Qualifications
    • MSc and/or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and/or equivalent work experience
    • 7+ years of experience in software development
    • 5+ years of experience managing software development teams
    • 2+ years of experience managing, owning technical roadmap, focusing on making solid hires, and developing junior engineers
    • Working experience with deploying multi-tier applications reliably
    • Experience architecting and designing (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) new and existing systems
    • Proven expertise in tracking software development activities to make continual progress on the company development roadmap
    • Experience overseeing code and technical documents and providing a timely review to ensure the implementation aligns with company goals
    • Hands-on experience building highly scalable distributed systems
    • Hands-on knowledge of coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations best practices.
    • Hands-on experience working in an interdisciplinary team consisting of research scientists and engineers

    • Skills
    • Expertise with one more programming or scripting language: Python, Java, C/C++, JavaScript
    • Experience with large-scale distributed storage and database systems (e.g. SQL, NoSQL)
    • Familiarity with the AWS Cloud product suite
    • Ability to work efficiently, occasionally under challenging timelines with evolving priorities
