The System Engineer, Autonomous Vehicles will be responsible for all aspects of the system architecture, from definition and requirements management to test and verification. The role will perform analyses and evaluations of algorithms and sensors as they apply to autonomous vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
Apply your skills in developing system requirements and architectures for sophisticated analog/digital embedded systems and lead your designs through integration and test.
Formulate Concept of Operations and derive top level system functions
Decompose the top-level system functions, behaviors and features into a set of requirements that specify the expected end-to-end system and driving behavior.
Ensure that the respective Requirement Documents is necessary and sufficient to fulfill the goal of a safe, legal and responsible autonomous product
Communicate early and often with partner teams, document the requirements and decisions, hold reviews
Develop and maintain clear development pipelines, workflows and dashboards for these functions, and partner closely with the development teams on the most effective way to engineer driving behaviors
Qualifications
BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or another related field
3+ years of industry experience in implementing complex and safety-critical systems
Industry experience in system engineering and requirements management including system analysis, requirements authoring, test generation, and validation activities
Working knowledge of HW and SW design
Working knowledge of autonomous vehicle software stack
Working knowledge of popular sensor modalities for autonomous vehicles
Familiarity with automotive software concepts and frameworks such as AUTOSAR, MISRA C,
Familiarity with machine learning and related tools such as CUDA, Tensorflow, PyTorch
Understanding of key systems engineering principles such as latency, bandwidth
Expertise and fluency in describing systems models using state machines, block diagrams, sequence diagrams and flowcharts
Strong background in developing software requirements and algorithm specifications
Knowledge of systems engineering tools is a plus
Knowledge of functional safety (ISO26262) and cybersecurity (ISO21434) also a plus

The base salary range for this position is $130K-$180K per year. SafeAI’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
