Sanctuary is seeking a Telerobotics Engineer to join our team. Have you ever dreamt of becoming one with a robot and or feeling fully immersed in operating one?

Here’s your chance! You’ll be responsible for developing, using, and testing the necessary (SW/HW/FW) subsystems and components which allow teleoperation of our humanoid robot. To be successful in this role, you should have excellent mechatronic skills, hands-on experience with complex systems, can-do attitude, and be willing to take on challenges where success is far from guaranteed. You will be part of a team in charge of developing, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining the teleoperation aspects of our robot operations.

    • Work with cross-functional engineering teams to develop new operations, processes, algorithms, and methodologies
    • Architect, implement, and test real-time software for teleoperation and telepresence
    • Setting up, piloting, and troubleshooting while on deployments (local or remote)
    • Participate and contribute in discussions about safety, risk analysis, feasibility, mitigation and implementation of analogous teleoperation and potential migration to higher control regimes for the robot
    • Take ownership of tasks which range from concept to actual hands-on implementation
    • Trying new, non-conventional methods for experimenting and scrutinizing existing methods used to ensure results and assumptions are valid
    • Communicate effectively to defend and discuss results, methods, algorithms, and plans
    • Keep your knowledge updated in the state of the art (not only the state of the praxis)
    • Solve telerobotics-specific research and engineering problems as they arise

    • Systematic and holistic approach to implementing improvements and/or troubleshooting issues
    • Fluency in C/C++, Bash Scripting, and Python
    • Masters or PhD in Robotics or Mechatronic Systems-related field (Computing Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering)
    • Knowledge of Teleoperation systems under time delay (extra points for force feedback, haptics, and telepresence)
    • Some experience with Model-based control, preferably with MATLAB/Simulink, and in particular with code generation
    • Solid knowledge and understanding of real-time systems for control and telemetry, in particular with mission critical and safety systems (with a human in the loop)
    • Familiarity with EtherCAT-based systems
    • Maker skill-set (ability and willingness to use different lab equipment and tools to produce things whenever required)
    • Experience with motion capture systems for VR/AR
    • Some experience desirable (not required) with ROS2 and DDS
