In this role, the candidate is expected to perform complex thermal analyses, develop detailed finite element simulations, and conduct experimental tests to validate and inform hardware design decisions. The ideal candidate has excellent engineering fundaments in heat transfer, the initiative to identify technical problems, and be a technical leader for Junior Engineers.
Essential Duties:
· Partner with Scientists and Engineers to analyze the thermal performance of novel cryogenic systems.
· Perform detailed thermal non-linear finite element modeling of mechanical and electrical hardware.
· Identify thermal failure modes of electronic components including PCBs and solder fatigue.
· Define and support, or execute, test efforts for analysis validation.
· Interpret analysis and test findings to inform mechanical and electrical hardware design decisions.
· Lead and mentor an analysis team.
· Review and validate peer analyses, and participate in design reviews.
· Develop standard practices and guidelines for thermal FEA and common hand calculations.
· Summarize key findings in written documents and oral presentations.
· Contribute to proposals, write reports, and develop schedule estimates.
Required Skills:
· Experience with analysis and test of electro-mechanical components for extreme temperature environments (e.g. cryogenics).
· Working knowledge of non-linear finite element analysis (FEA).
· Creative problem solving and strong organizational skills.
· Excellent communication skills; includes both oral and written.
· Ability to work well in a team environment, and willingness to train and mentor others.
- At least 8 years of professional experience (or 6 years of professional experience with a Masters degree) in an analysis based role.
