VP of Investor Relations

Monzo in London

📍London

About us:

We’re here to make money work for everyone and we're doing things differently. For too long, banking has been obtuse, complex and opaque.

We want to change that and build a bank with everyone, for everyone. Our amazing community suggests features, test the app and give us constant feedback so we can build something everyone loves.

We're focused on solving problems, rather than selling financial products. We want to make the world a better place and change people's lives through Monzo.

About the role:

As our VP of Investor Relations (IR), you will be responsible for leading Monzo’s IR function and initiatives. This will include helping to develop and shape the equity story as well as the investor interaction. You will be a key member of the Finance senior leadership team and will report directly to the Group CFO.

Our current IR strategy has put us in a very strong position with top tier investors such as Accel, Y Combinator Growth Fund, General Catalyst, and Coatue. We are at an inflexion point in Monzo’s journey and the successful candidate will design our IR strategy in line with our ambitious global goals and work closely with our Executive Committee to determine the right medium and long term ownership structure. This is a great opportunity to join a high growth, pre-public company at scale and establish, from ground-up, the vision and strategy for our investor relations function.

In this role, you will work to build relationships across the current profile of investors (largely early stage global tech investors), cross over funds, and large traditional public market funds. You will strategise for future rounds in private or public markets which likely will include our journey to an IPO. You will be responsible for framing Monzo’s narrative in a compelling way and anticipate thoughts and questions from across a spectrum of different investor types.

The right candidate is a strong communicator with excellent analytical and financial skills, established relationships with the global investment community (especially UK, US and Asia) and has the ability to thrive in fast paced and dynamic environments.

In your day-to-day you will:

  • Build trusted relationships and confidence with current investors
  • Represent Monzo as a spokesperson to the investment community with a focus on educating current and prospective shareholders about Monzo’s strategy, performance and market opportunity
  • Work closely with the CFO, CEO and our communications team to develop a market leading investor relations site. The existing team has lots of ideas on how this should be shaped but this will be your core deliverable in the first 100 days
  • Plan and execute other key investor facing activities including investor days, non-deal roadshows and other investor dialogue
  • Distil insight from investors to Monzo’s leadership team and Board
  • Partner with Monzo leaders before, during and after core transactions to make sure the deals make sense from a value perspective, fit with forward-looking business plans and are integrated smoothly and fully optimised

You should apply if you have:

  • 10+ years experience in one (or more) of the following areas: investment/hedge fund sales, senior sell side analyst, equity capital markets or M&A at an investment bank or large global corporation, venture capital or growth equity
  • 5+ years of working with third party analysts and investors in an IR capacity at a public company in a technology/digital based sector or working with public market investors in another capacity (i.e. investment or advisory capacity)
  • Strong understanding of IPO process in the UK and US (ideally having led at least one in either location as an advisor or within the company itself)
  • Experience working with major investors across the world and understanding the nuances of how to build deep relationships and encourage consistent and trusted behaviour
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • The ability to stay organised and thrive in an extremely fast paced environment
  • The ability to be a self starter and not above any level of work required to get the job done
  • Excitement about what Monzo is doing!

Nice to have:

  • Fintech and/or regulated banking experience
